Design Registration

Design means any shape, configuration, pattern, ornament, composition of lines, color or combination thereof applied to any article in 2D, 3D or in both forms. Designs can be registered for computers, telephones, CD-players, textiles, jewellery and watches. A registered design gives protection to the look of any product.

The registration and protection of industrial designs in India is governed by the Designs Act, 2000 and the Designs Rules, 2001 framed there under. Registered design protection in India is available for a period of 10 years which can be extended further for a period of 5 years.
